Our granddaddy used to tell us a story about a little lady who killed a marauding bear and then used a low branch on a tree to dress it, all by herself, back in the 1920’s. Since the bear was laid over the tree, and bears were not often seen in the area, the tree came to be called The Bear Tree. Granddaddy always showed us the tree each time he told the story. His ranch was soon called The Bear Tree Ranch. We built our new, aptly named Bear Tree Barn last year to host family events, and now we are opening it up for other families and groups.
